The EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation is an essential tool to boost excellent research and foster collaboration at European level.
Background
Under Pillar 2 “Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness”, Horizon Europe finances calls for proposals in 6 clusters, 3 of which are of relevance for the iodine industry: 1) Health; 2) Digital, Industry and Space; 3) Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment.
EUthyroid2
WIA participates as an Associate Member in EUthyroid2, an EU public health research project funded under cluster 2 “Health”. It targets the elimination of iodine deficiency (ID) and preventable thyroid-related diseases in Europe, becoming the benchmark of ID prevention worldwide.
WIA leverages its network for policymaker engagement to present the consortium’s findings, organise policy roundtables, and prepare an execution plan for the signing of the 2nd Krakow Declaration on Iodine.
Impact on the iodine sector
The EU-funded project offers an opportunity to raise further awareness about the importance of ensuring an adequate iodine status across EU Member States and improve the public perception among EU citizens. By identifying best practices across the EU, EUthyroid2 will lay the foundation for a cost-effective way to eradicate iodine deficiency-related disorders.
